On May 3, Chengdu Newsun Crop Science Ltd. was granted a patent under ref. US9326506 by the US Patent and Trademark Office for its “Preparation method, agricultural composition, and applications of natural Brassinolide analogs.”

This patent outlines a new method of extraction and application of natural Brassinolide analogs, covering applications to promote plant development, improve plant germination rates, enhance plant resistance to cold temperatures, and salt resistance. Further, the patent lists an agricultural composition, which includes natural Brassinolide analogs.

Brassinolide is recognized around the world as a high-efficient, broad spectrum, nontoxic plant growth regulator, regarded as the sixth plant hormone after auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, abscisic acid, and ethylene. It features high physiological activity with distinctive functions for plant growth and development, requiring the minimal amount of use. It works with only one-thousandth of the amount needed by any of the other five hormones, making it a very promising option for future applications.

What is Brassinolide?

Brassinolide is a natural plant hormone. The first isolated brassinosteroid, it was discovered when it was shown that pollen from rapeseed (Brassica napus) could promote stem elongation and cell division. The biologically active component was isolated and named brassinolide.
